Claddagh School of Irish Dance is under the direction of Colette Shields A.D.C.R.G. and is the only Irish dance school in the Mackay Region that offers specialised Irish dance classes for dancers of all ages as well as all levels of experience. We currently have two locations - our home-base in North Mackay and our second location in Marian. We also have virtual classes for dancers who do not live in the region.
Since our origins in 2008, our primary aim has been to build dancers self-confidence so they can achieve their full potential in a positive learning environment. We pride ourselves on training well-rounded dancers who receive a holistic education in Irish culture, language as well as traditional and modern Irish dance styles. Our school philosophy is based around the symbols of the Claddagh: Love, Friendship and Loyalty & we promote a positive TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) spirit within the studio.
Our unique, curriculum-based dance programs are designed to challenge each dancer to develop their concentration skills, musicality, co-ordination, balance and self-confidence which provides a solid foundation for the more intricate steps as they progress. Dancers participate in solo and ceili dances to encourage both individual development along with teamwork and group skills. Dancers are given the opportunity to perform in community performances, dance camps, workshops, competitions, examinations and our annual concert.
In 2021, we proudly became the first Irish dance school in Queensland to hold a soloist World Championship title with Sarah being crowned the U27 World Irish Dance Association World Champion. In 2023, our dancers travelled to Killarney, Ireland to the WIDA World Championships. Issey placed 3rd in the u8 International World Championship, Tahlee placed 8th in the u17 World Championship and Sarah placed 2nd in the u30 World Championship.
I look forward to seeing you at class and sharing my love of Irish dancing with you and your family!
